What we've been up to?

Not much! We were on vacation last week and ended up hanging around the house and then going camping at the end of the week. Didn't even take one picture while we were camping! I do have some pictures of the Chicken Whisperer that I'll post when I find my camera amongst the camping shrapnel.

We have been on a eyeglass hunt. Gosh it's been a challenging event. We went to two local eyeglass shops/optometrists but since we already have the prescription it was like pulling teeth to get anyone to help us, beyond the fact that Asa had NO interest in the event and our insurance won't cover an optometrist but will the ophthalmologist. I am bent (literally) on metal frames, don't want anything to do with them and there is no where I can find the Centrostyle Glasses we really like. So, the lack of the selection locally I hit the Internet (cause that's what I do). I might regret the decision but I found a pair online I really liked and the measurements I was looking for based on the Centrostyle pair. Plus they're cool and I did not like any of the childish frames we saw at the shops. I know we'll need to have adjustments done and we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. If all fails we can return them in 7 days I'm praying, picking up lucky pennies and crossing my fingers they work out!!! The Centrostyle pair also had cool clips for the arms to help hold the glasses in place and wouldn't you know Croakie makes the same thing! I found them on Amazon for $7.95. So hopefully we'll be sporting these and looking dapper as ever for kindy!

Swimming at Daycare
Asa had an ear infection last week. He has been swimming alot lately and doing great! The first day he went swimming with Daycare he jumped in like all the big kids did before my friend Jess was ready. The pool is about 5 feet deep and he went under with only arm floaties on. He came up eyes bulging but was fine. I think this is the culprit to the ear infection because on the way home that day he said his ears hurt and a couple days later there was drainage.... As long as he keeps his head above water we'll be fine!

Just a another thing...

I called at the beginning of the week to make Asa an appointment with his Ophthalmologist totally expecting to not get in until September. Which would have been the case if they didn't have an opening at 1:15 yesterday! This is the second time we've been to see the eye doctor since December. Last fall I noticed Asa turning his right eye in to focus on certain things. Most particularly when he's sitting in the tub and looking up at me trying to focus on my face. Well, in December we couldn't get him to do this even with his eyes dialated! But he's continued to do the turning in thing since, his OT was most concerned because she sees it on a regular basis when he is working on things close-up. So back we went yesterday for more dialation and apparently they never tried to get him to do the turning in focusing at an elevation last time... I was sure I said he does this sitting and looking up at me but with a screaming kid who didn't want to sit still it might have not been communicated very well. It is a battle, BATTLE! to get drops in Asa's eyes.

The end result; they were able to get Asa to turn in his eye by focusing on something at a elevated level and the suggestion is to try to correct this before it gets worse with glasses. They won't necessarily be to correct his vision, but to help him when he's having a hard time focusing and keep him from turning his right eye in order to focus.

The avenue of glasses is so foreign to me. I haven't been to an optometrist in 15 years. We have a prescription but I want something that a) looks good, b) is comfortable c) will stay on and d) is durable! My friend Leah over at Garden of Eagan swears by these.
They have a rubberized nose area and arms for added grip and they have these handy dandy clips on the arms that help keep the buggers on! So much nicer and more comfortable than things that curl around your ears.. My problem is that I'm not sure if there is anyone in our area that carries them. Either I'm going to have to do a lot of calling around or see if our friend (who happens to manage an eyeglass shop) has a distributor that can get these..

My Two Sons

My heart bursts when I think of these two. Time spent together is so limited when you work full time I wish there were more hours in the day to just soak them up! Last night I couldn't help but take a gazillion pictures because today you know they are that much bigger and older.

I got a little heavy handed in photoshop on this one.

Trooper

Asa caught his brother's cold last week and was super congested with a nasty cough. This was him at naptime at daycare last Friday.

doesn't he look so big in this pic? makes me sad he's growing up so fast! He's breathing out of his mouth cause his nose his so stuffed...

And this was him 2 hours later rockin' the water slide. What a Trooper! He has been hesitant of the water slide but he's built up the courage and this was his second time down!
